Gecko Service Pros vs. Smokey’s Garage Door

If you’re comparing garage door companies in the Phoenix Valley, both Smokey’s Garage Door and Gecko Service Pros have longstanding connections to the Arizona market – but today their ownership structures and service capabilities are different.

Smokey’s has served the Phoenix area since the early 1980s and continues operating under its familiar local brand. However, Franchise Equity Partners acquired Smokey’s Garage Door in 2025, making the company part of a private investment portfolio focused on expanding home-service businesses.

Gecko Service Pros is a locally owned Arizona contractor serving residential and commercial customers throughout the Phoenix Valley.

Local Operating Brand vs. Private-Equity Ownership

Smokey’s continues to market itself as a locally operated garage-door company, but its ownership changed when Franchise Equity Partners acquired the business.

Some customers may appreciate the resources and infrastructure available through a larger investment-backed organization. Others prefer working with an independently owned Arizona company.

Larger investment-backed companies may also have additional corporate, marketing and administrative costs. That does not necessarily mean their prices will always be higher, but customers should compare the actual repair, parts, warranty, financing and total project price before deciding which company provides the best value.

How the Companies Compare

Both Smokey’s Garage Door and Gecko Service Pros provide common residential garage-door services, including:

Smokey’s also advertises both residential and commercial garage-door services throughout the Phoenix area.

The biggest difference is the broader range of services available through Gecko Service Pros.

Gecko also provides:

For properties with multiple entrance or access systems, this allows one contractor to address more than just the garage door.

What Should You Compare?

Before choosing among garage door companies in Phoenix, AZ, compare:

Smokey’s currently promotes financing for projects up to $25,000, with advertised APRs ranging as high as 29.99%, depending on qualification and terms. Financing can be useful, but customers should always compare the total financed cost rather than focusing only on the monthly payment.

A professional garage-door company should clearly explain what failed, why the repair is needed, and what options are available.

Don’t choose a contractor solely because it appears first in Google, has been around for decades, or has a large advertising presence. Compare the diagnosis, scope of work, warranty, financing and total price.

Why Consider Gecko Service Pros?

If you’re looking for a Smokey’s Garage Door alternative, Gecko may be a strong fit if you want:

For homeowners, businesses, HOAs and commercial properties with both garage doors and gates, Gecko’s broader service capabilities can simplify repairs, installation and ongoing maintenance.

If you’ve already received an estimate from Smokey’s Garage Door, Gecko Service Pros can provide another option for comparison.
